Venue Spotlight: River Roast

Picture from River Roast in Chicago

Situated in downtown Chicago, perched on the iconic Chicago River, you’ll find the lively restaurant which is a firm favorite with locals and tourists alike. River Roast is a restaurant that specializes in contemporary popular US foods done in a way that pays a true testament to these beloved national dishes.

This top Chicago river hot spot has a menu that is the very definition of a crowd-pleaser. It reads like a list of the nation’s favorites, and that’s what we absolutely love about it. Thanks to the extremely talented Executive Chef Cedric Harden, everything from succulent ribs and meat that is carved table side, to game changing roast corn and fried chicken (of course!) is up for grabs – so there’s no worries when it comes to bringing guests here, you know everyone will be spoilt for choice!

Choosing this spot for your wedding reception dinner is a sure fire way to provide your day with a vibe that is charming and truly heart-warming, and this restaurant will certainly breathe old fashioned charm and quintessentially American family feel into your celebrations.

River Roast also provides guests with the perfect spot to gaze out at stunning views of both the city and an outlook over the river too. The whole venue is designed with these views in mind, meaning for the diners, both inside and out, the backdrop to your meal is dramatic and magnificent.

We wanted to spotlight this gorgeous restaurant in our blog because our clients have always found that it makes for the perfect spot for their celebrations. It combines ‘soul warming’ (as they describe their intentions behind their dishes) food which brings all of your loved ones together, with an atmosphere that is warm, friendly and intimate.

If you’re drawn to this venue, whether it be the sound of its happy vibe or even just the read of the menu, we’ve worked alongside the team at River Roast so we can wholeheartedly recommend their services to you.

Now that you’ve got the food sorted, we can give you a hand with the entertainment for your wedding too. At Paul Michaels Events, we are Chicago’s most trusted DJ and entertainment company. Our fantastic levels of customer satisfaction comes from the way in which we work to really get to know each of our clients personally, because we know that this is the best way for us to achieve perfection for them on their wedding day. If you’d like to get to know us or find out a little bit more about what we do, just get in touch, we’d be delighted to hear from you!

Kristina and Tim’s Wedding at the Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel

DJ Paul Michaels and assistant Michael were recently honored to celebrate with Kristina and Tim for their wedding at the Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel.

Kristina and Tim held their wedding ceremony earlier in the day at Second Presbyterian Church in Chicago. Later in the day when they arrived at the reception venue, the room was ready to go and looked beautiful for them to celebrate with their family and friends.  As you can see in the gallery below, the Renaissance in downtown Chicago event venue space makes for a great place to hold a celebration, with an incredible view of the skyline of downtown!

In addition to a cocktail hour setup for music in the pre-reception area, Paul Michaels Events provided full room uplighting with our elite wedding package which includes moving head lights on lighting totems. Of course, everything went exactly as planned and it was a celebration that will be happily remembered by all!

We had a blast celebrating with Kristina and Tim as well as their family and friends!

Martha and Jean-Alexis’s Wedding at the Metropolitan Club in the Willis Tower

Just last weekend we had the opportunity to DJ for an awesome couple, Martha and Jean-Alexis for their wedding at the Metropolitan Club at the Willis Tower. Jean-Alexi is from France, and was lucky enough to have so many of his family and close friends be able to make the trip to Chicago for their ceremony and celebrations. With the wedding being on the 66th floor of the Willis Tower, you can imagine the views everyone was able to experience during the reception.

After a cocktail hour in the ‘Chicago’ room, the couple and their guests moved to the ‘Oak’ Room to get the night started. After having some speeches in multiple languages (English, and French, of course) we opened up the dance floor and kept rocking with the couple and their friends and family all night.

Catherine and Drew’s Wedding at Pinstripes in Streeterville Downtown Chicago

Only two weeks since our last wedding at Pinstripes in Streeterville, and we’re back again to celebrate Catherine and Drew’s Wedding! Catherine and Drew came to us almost a year before their wedding (one week short of a year) as a referral from the venue due to our great track record there. We talked with Catherine and Drew about what they were looking for (and what they didn’t want for their wedding) and we knew we’d be able to provide them a perfect evening to be able to celebrate with their family and closest friends.

We set the room uplighting to a light blue/cyan color which really added some color to the room, matching with the couple’s color scheme. After cocktail hour, we really kicked it into high gear and set the tone for the night with their bridal party introductions. Based on the responses (physical, verbal, etc) from the couple’s guests, we were able to start to get a feel for the vibe that we thought would keep everyone on the dance floor throughout the party. Something that stood out about Catherine and Drew is how they barely provided any song requests before their wedding. This isn’t a bad thing at all. When we confirmed this with them during our final planning meeting, they made it clear that they only cared about a few songs, and wanted us to do what we do best! We love them for that comment!

When the dance floor opened, DJ Paul Michaels and Assistant Evan rocked with Catherine and Drew and their guests all night!

Michelle and Zach’s Wedding at the Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel

On September 7th, Michelle and Zach celebrated their matrimony in a night no one will forget. They held the Wedding at the Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel. DJ Ian and DJ Brian were on hand to provide audio and music for the beautiful ceremony, as well as curate the party during dinner and dancing. We were honored to serve as an integral aspect of the evening through class and fun.

At the Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel, the ceremony was held in the Explore Ballroom, a circular room with large windows on every side that overlooks the heart of the city’s downtown along the Chicago River. The panoramic view looking out is only outdone by the view looking up: a fully glass vaulted ceiling, allowing the night lights to envelope the entire space.

Zach’s Aunt, Andrea – an ordained Jewish Cantor, led the ceremony. After reading part of the Ketubah signed by Michelle and Zach, Andrea sang with elegance the traditional seven blessings, while siblings and close family came up to read the blessings.

After the smashing conclusion of the ceremony (“Mazel tov!”) the guests retreated to the Discovery Room for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Around 9:45 they were welcomed back into the Explore Room, newly transformed for dinner. While Michelle and Zach opted for a traditional dinner music backdrop of vocal jazz and classy love songs, Ian snuck in two (appropriately timed) Star Wars songs to Zach’s delight, a famously devout Star Wars fan.

After dinner, desserts, and camaraderie, Zach and Michelle kicked off the dancing portion of the evening around 11:45 with their first dance to “You Are the Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne. Ian and Brian kept the dance floor packed from start to finish through the ebbs and flows of the night, including a rousing rendition of everyone’s favorite, the Hora.

With everyone leaving to head home or to their rooms after 2 AM, everyone was exhausted in the best of ways, but none more happy than our newlyweds.

Deborah and Kristian’s Wedding at Pinstripes in Downtown Chicago

Recently we were able to work at one of our preferred venues downtown Chicago for Deborah and Kristian’s wedding at Pinstripes in Downtown Chicago. We started with the couple’s wedding ceremony, officiated by the groom’s father, and then we moved into the cocktail hour portion of the evening. This was held at a beautiful bar right next to the Chicago River Canal. After cocktail hour, the couple along with their friends and family moved back into the reception hall for dinner. That is where and when we got the dancing started!

Pinstripes is uniquely situated in the historic River East Arts Center. In 2015, it was renovated and turned into what is now Pinstripes.  We love this place as a wedding venue, and since it isn’t your typical wedding venue, it makes for a great change of pace compared to our usual venues.  After all, how many wedding venues have bowling and bocce ball available? It is awesome.

Deborah and Kristian seemed to be having a blast rocking out with their family and friends. Check out some of the pictures below!

If you’d like to have an event, wedding, reception, or any other type of party at Pinstripes, feel free to reach out to us here at Paul Michaels Events and we’d be glad to help.

Wear Blue Run to Remember Gala at the Union League Club in Chicago

Blue Gala Fundraiser

The Wear Blue: Run to Remember Organization held their Annual Gala on July 19 at Chicago’s Legendary Union League Club in Downtown Chicago. We here at Paul Michaels Events had the honor of providing Dj and entertainment services for the evening. This organization takes on the incredibly challenging, but incredibly wonderful tasks of providing support to families who have lost their loved ones serving in the military.

They do this by hosting multiple running events throughout the country. Families are invited to train and participate in these events with other families who have gone through similar experiences. Their process helps people realize that they have the strength to ability to do anything they set their mind to; helping them complete physical feats they would have never thought possible. Most importantly these families do it all in remembrance of their fallen loved ones.

The night was definitely one to remember. It began with the national anthem played by a trumpeter and members of the US Marine Corps presenting the flag. Dinner service included presentations by a few members of the organization. They shared stories and memories about their journey with Wear Blue. It was an emotional, heartfelt event all around, but the stories these members shared really tugged at your heart and made everyone proud to be apart of the event.

Many showed their generous side by donating directly to the organization, and others helped by bidding in a charity auction that offered everything from sports packages to vacation getaways.

Once one of the spokeswomen gave us the cue, it was finally our time to shine and open the dance floor. DJ Brian and DJ Paul Michaels hit the crowd hard with all of the best dance hits to lift their spirits sky-high. They turned the final hour in Power hour and didn’t let one foot leave the dance floor. This organization is all about support and uplifting people who have experienced some bad things in life, and we couldn’t have been happier to have been able to play a part.

See you next year at the Gala!

Sarah and Paul’s Wedding at The Greenhouse Loft: Chicago Wedding Djs

wedding with uplighting rentals at downtown chicago greenhouse loft

We Love Dj’ing Weddings and Receptions

#CallUsTheCrossleys

Sarah and Paul were wed on July 6 at the beautiful Greenhouse Loft in Chicago. Paul Michaels Events had the esteemed pleasure of providing services for their ceremony as well as the reception. This was a very unique venue, smaller than we are used to and with much more exposure from windows covering the entire back half of the room. The room looked absolutely beautiful and was incredibly decorated with greenery by Flowers for Dreams. The decor combined with our state of the art lighting really made this room look stunning!

Sarah and Paul were incredibly nice and easy to work with from the start. The ceremony took place right outside the building in front of the garden area. The rain was threatening to ruin the day, but fortunately, the only thing that came down was sunlight shining on the beautiful couple the entire evening.  It was one of the smoothest ceremonies that we’ve been party to, and that easiness lead to everyone having a great time throughout the evening.  It didn’t matter how many trains rolled by during the ceremony or how long it took for the dance party to start. Sarah and Paul kept smiles on their faces all night… which helped make our experience all the better. We couldn’t have asked for a better couple to work with. It was such an unforgettable and special day.

Malachi’s Bar Mitzvah at Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse in River North Downtown Chicago

Bar Mitzvah Entertainers in Downtown Chicago

Mazel Tov Malachi!

Our A-Team for Bar and Bat Mitzvahs in Chicago recently partied with Malachi and his family and friends at Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse in River North

Malachi did an awesome job reciting his Torah portions earlier in the day at Emanuel Congregation. As a result, some celebrations were definitely in order!  As the guests arrived, we played several fun games with Malachi and his friends, and the adults enjoy some time during a cocktail hour in the next room. There was some very fierce, but still friendly competition with the hula-hoop game and the scavenger hunt was something that should be remembered for years to come.

As guests entered the main celebration are, DJ Paul and DJ Terry opened the dance floor for them. Dancer Jeffrey and Dancer Jamie led the group by sharing a few follow-along dance moves. Malachi welcomed all the guests, and his brothers and parents gave excellent speeches. While the parents partook in dinner, we played a game of huggy-bear with the kids. If you’re not familiar with that game, it’s a great way to break the ice among kids. It’s similar to musical chairs, but with hugs. You should definitely Google it if you’re not familiar with it.

Once everyone was fed, the dance floor kicked off again with the Hora! Malachi was lifted in the chair by some guests…including his mom!

The night continued with Malachi’s awesome photo montage and a nail-biting game of Coke-and-Pepsi. When we weren’t playing games, Malachi, his friends, and the adults were on the dance floor the entire night!

Celebrating Ailey Soirée for Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University at Venue Six10

We had the honor of DJing the Ailey Soirée, a celebration of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s 50th year performing at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University and 60th anniversary of the Alvin Ailey company. The company, originating in New York City, was led by Alvin Ailey and a group of young African-American modern dancers to change forever the perception of American dance.

The evening started with their 2019 opening performance at the Auditorium Theatre. Following the performance, donors and “Revelations” Revelers joined the company at Venue Six10, just down the street from the Auditorium Theatre for the evening Soirée. We provided background music as the guests arrived, mingled and discussed the show. After a few speeches by distinguished honorees, we opened up the dance floor. There’s nothing like having a company of professional dancers to light up the dance floor, as it was packed and animated late into the night.

Check out a few of the pictures from the event below.
