Venue Spotlight: River Roast

Picture from River Roast in Chicago

Situated in downtown Chicago, perched on the iconic Chicago River, you’ll find the lively restaurant which is a firm favorite with locals and tourists alike. River Roast is a restaurant that specializes in contemporary popular US foods done in a way that pays a true testament to these beloved national dishes.

This top Chicago river hot spot has a menu that is the very definition of a crowd-pleaser. It reads like a list of the nation’s favorites, and that’s what we absolutely love about it. Thanks to the extremely talented Executive Chef Cedric Harden, everything from succulent ribs and meat that is carved table side, to game changing roast corn and fried chicken (of course!) is up for grabs – so there’s no worries when it comes to bringing guests here, you know everyone will be spoilt for choice!

Choosing this spot for your wedding reception dinner is a sure fire way to provide your day with a vibe that is charming and truly heart-warming, and this restaurant will certainly breathe old fashioned charm and quintessentially American family feel into your celebrations.

River Roast also provides guests with the perfect spot to gaze out at stunning views of both the city and an outlook over the river too. The whole venue is designed with these views in mind, meaning for the diners, both inside and out, the backdrop to your meal is dramatic and magnificent.

We wanted to spotlight this gorgeous restaurant in our blog because our clients have always found that it makes for the perfect spot for their celebrations. It combines ‘soul warming’ (as they describe their intentions behind their dishes) food which brings all of your loved ones together, with an atmosphere that is warm, friendly and intimate.

If you’re drawn to this venue, whether it be the sound of its happy vibe or even just the read of the menu, we’ve worked alongside the team at River Roast so we can wholeheartedly recommend their services to you.

Now that you’ve got the food sorted, we can give you a hand with the entertainment for your wedding too. At Paul Michaels Events, we are Chicago’s most trusted DJ and entertainment company. Our fantastic levels of customer satisfaction comes from the way in which we work to really get to know each of our clients personally, because we know that this is the best way for us to achieve perfection for them on their wedding day. Malachi’s Bar Mitzvah at Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse in River North Downtown Chicago

Mazel Tov Malachi!

Our A-Team for Bar and Bat Mitzvahs in Chicago recently partied with Malachi and his family and friends at Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse in River North

Malachi did an awesome job reciting his Torah portions earlier in the day at Emanuel Congregation. As a result, some celebrations were definitely in order!  As the guests arrived, we played several fun games with Malachi and his friends, and the adults enjoy some time during a cocktail hour in the next room. There was some very fierce, but still friendly competition with the hula-hoop game and the scavenger hunt was something that should be remembered for years to come.

As guests entered the main celebration are, DJ Paul and DJ Terry opened the dance floor for them. Dancer Jeffrey and Dancer Jamie led the group by sharing a few follow-along dance moves. Malachi welcomed all the guests, and his brothers and parents gave excellent speeches. While the parents partook in dinner, we played a game of huggy-bear with the kids. If you’re not familiar with that game, it’s a great way to break the ice among kids. It’s similar to musical chairs, but with hugs. You should definitely Google it if you’re not familiar with it.

Once everyone was fed, the dance floor kicked off again with the Hora! Malachi was lifted in the chair by some guests…including his mom!

The night continued with Malachi’s awesome photo montage and a nail-biting game of Coke-and-Pepsi. When we weren’t playing games, Malachi, his friends, and the adults were on the dance floor the entire night!

Mary and Ian’s Wedding at Maggiano’s in River North Downtown

Words can barely describe this wedding of these Loyola University Alumni!

Mary and Ian met a few years back at Loyola University while they were in a writing workshop class together. They immediately hit it off and have been together ever since!

The couple had their wedding ceremony at the Madonna della Strada Chapel at Loyola, which is only fitting, and then made their way to River North to get the reception started!

Andi Allen and her team did an awesome job transforming the room into one of the most beautiful wedding receptions we’ve seen all year! They had tall floral centerpieces with hanging candles as centerpieces at each table, with many of these centerpieces on the head table (check out the pictures below).

DJ Paul and Assistant Evan got the party started and kept the dance floor packed until the very end (even though the bars had closed an hour prior, which is always an accomplishment!)

Check out the pictures below for a quick recap of their wedding!

Jill and Brett’s Wedding at the Montgomery Club in Chicago

DJ Ian and Assistant Hootan recently helped Jill and Brett celebrate their wedding at the Montgomery Club in Chicago’s River North area (where Paul Michaels Events is based).

Paul Michaels Events provided full room uplighting, a photobooth, and of course an audio system appropriate for all of the couple’s guests! One of the services we pride ourselves on at Paul Michaels Events is making sure that all details are taken care of ahead of time and having the foresight to plan for any possible issues that may arise.

For Jill and Brett’s wedding, the ceremony and reception were held in the same room, with a “room flip” while guests enjoyed cocktail hour in the venue’s “Chicago Room” before re-entering for the reception. These “room flips” require a lot of coordination from all vendors in order to smoothly change the room and be prepared for the reception in under an hour.

For this wedding, we hadn’t previously played any events at the venue, so we met with the venue staff far before the event to get a feel for the room to make sure we were providing appropriate amounts of equipment for what the couple wanted. In terms of sound coverage, many DJ companies have the “cookie cutter” approach where they use the same exact setup at every event. We know that this doesn’t work, and that audio and lighting coverage needs to be specific to the venue, and number of guests. For example, a room with tall (20-40 foot) ceilings is going to sound much different than a venue with 8 foot tall ceilings.
