Amanda and Alec’s Wedding at Galleria Marchetti in Chicago

Many people view the end of August as the end summer and the fun along with it. For Paul Michaels Events it’s quite the opposite, as the fun never stops no matter what the season! That held true on Saturday, August 28th, when we had the golden opportunity to provide our wedding DJ services for Amanda and Alec’s wedding at the beautiful Galleria Marchetti. Located just around the corner from our location in River North, this venue features a large tent structure surrounded with large windows for the natural light to shine through. It added an extra sparkle to the many decorations and smiling faces of all 250+ guests.

Unsurprisingly, Amanda & Alec gave a new meaning to the phrase “Life of the Party.” From the moment they gave their grand entrance they exceeded expectations in every way. It was easy to see where they get it from after hearing their parents speak and especially watching them dance.

Speaking of dancing, Amanda & Alec’s friends came to celebrate and dance the night away! The dance floor was packed all night to the point that there was barely space left.  The combination of shouting lyrics in unison, mosh pitting, and circle dancing kept the energy at a all time high the whole night. DJ Brian couldn’t have been happier to work with this couple and be apart of their incredible, memorable night. He looks forward to the next event along with all the other employees of Paul Michaels events in hope that they only continue to get better.

Clare and Hartej’s Wedding at the Bridge in Lemont

While there are many great venues out there, we love when we get to work with a venue that goes over the top for the couple and are great to work with. On August 28th, we had the honor of being the Wedding DJ for Clare and Hartej at The Bridge in Lemont. They chose the VIP Treatment Package, with name in lights, dancing on clouds, uplights, and upgraded audio! In addition, the venue treated them like VIPs! We loved working with Kevin and Alisa, the husband and wife couple that owns The Bridge.

The day began with a wedding ceremony officiated by the mayor of Lemont and the Uncle of the bride, with 180 guests. We provided wedding ceremony audio coverage to ensure that the ceremony could be heard by all!

The evening progressed into a cocktail hour in the front of the venue before guests transitioned back into the reception room to continue the night. The bridal party was introduced to Thunderstruck by AC/DC, and then Clare and Hartej entered the reception, wow’ed by the beautiful room. The ballroom of The Bridge is beautiful, and had gorgeous decor by Atmosphere Events Group, accentuated by our light-blue full-room uplighting.

For their first dance, the couple surprised all their guests with our dancing on the clouds effect which is a low laying fog effect, and it looked awesome!

The upgraded audio setup sounded fantastic in the venue while DJ Paul and Assistant Evan had the guests on the dance floor all night long. We mixed in and out of American Music and Bhangra music throughout the night seamlessly. In addition, the guests loved the Photo Booth station provided by Paul Michaels Events!

Abigail and Jacob’s Wedding at the University of Chicago Quadrangle Club

Mazel Tov!

Back in the beginning of August, Abigail and Jacob got the perfect day for a Chicago Summer Wedding! Abigail and Jacob were joined by their friends and family at the Quandrangle Club in Hyde Park.

After signing the Ketubah, the evening began with the Jewish wedding ceremony, officiated by Rabbi Lizzi Hedydemann. Friends of the bride and groom played viola and saxophone during the processional and recessional and we provided audio services including microphones for the ceremony.

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed a cocktail hour before the reception began! At the reception, the dancing began with the couple’s first dance, followed by a father daughter dance, a mother son dance and a mother daughter dance, which led perfectly into the start of dancing. DJ Shannon and Assistant Israel had the dance floor packed with the couple’s family and friends.

Later in the evening, they did the traditional Jewish dance called the Horah, which included lifting the bride and groom on chairs in the middle of the dance floor! Eventually, the evening came to a close as the remaining guests joined the bride and groom in dancing to a classic last dance song: “Wagon Wheel”.

Meg and John’s Wedding at Cantigny Golf in Wheaton

In late July DJ Paul Michaels and Assistant Kyle had the distinct pleasure to provide Wheaton Wedding DJ services for Meg and John.

Meg and John live in Florida (which is also where they met) but have family in the suburbs of Chicago, so they held their wedding at Cantigny Golf Course, in their new wedding venue (built during covid).

The day of the wedding, it was such a hot day that we moved the wedding ceremony indoors (it was originally planned to be outside), and then after the ceremony concluded, all the guests went outdoors for cocktail hour while the venue did a ‘room flip’ to turn the ceremony space into a beautiful reception space.

After dinner was over, the dance floor stayed busy with all of the couple’s family and friends!

Katie and Andrew’s Destination Wedding at the Laurel in Dallas

Another destination wedding in the books!

We had been working with Katie and Andrew for quite a while on making their wedding a perfect reality here in Chicago, but due to COVID and other reasons, the wedding could not go on in Chicago.

Katie and Andrew called up DJ Paul Michaels with the sad news about their Chicago wedding, and although they were bummed they wouldn’t be having their wedding in Chicago, they wanted to see if Paul Michaels Events could still work with them on their wedding at their new venue in DALLAS! For their new venue, they chose Boxwood Hospitality Group‘s The Laurel which is a beautiful special events venue in Grapevine (just outside of Dallas), Texas.

For this wedding, DJ Paul Michaels flew in town the day prior (Friday) in order to make sure there was no room for error, and we hired a local DJ/Production company to handle all the DJ gear and lighting to our high standards.

The couple tied the knot at the Laurel’s in-house chapel in front of their family and friends, and then moved outside for a beautiful cocktail hour in the Dallas sun.

For the reception, DJ Paul Michaels kicked it into high gear. Once this group started dancing, we had a PACKED dance floor all night!

Katie and Andrew as well as all their family and friends had the time of their lives, and photographer Ben Ramos  (also Chicago based) was there to capture all of it!

Maddy and Adam’s Wedding at Pinstripes in Oakbrook

DJ Shannon and Assistant Gabrielle had the honor to help Maddy and Adam to celebrate their wedding at Pinstripes in Oakbrook. Their reception took place immediately after tying the knot at St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. The guests started the night with cocktails in the bar area before making their way into the reception hall, where we provided Full Room Uplighting. The uplighting was set to a cyan to match the navy theme and worked well with the beautiful centerpieces provided by Robert’s Floral Design in Chicago.

We started the night with the bridal party introductions. After a family style dinner and toasts from the family members, we started with the first dances. The couple shared dances with their parents, including a father daughter dance and a mother son dance. As soon as the dance floor opened, it exploded with energy. The night was full of dancing, as this group came to party! The guests were having so much fun, they organized their own conga line through the tables in the room. And when the limbo broke out in the middle of the dance floor, we were prepared with our roll-out limbo stick. While we don’t use it at many weddings, it is great to have when there is a group ready to limbo!

At the time the couple would normally do a cake cutting, the couple decided to do a pizza cutting! We love when couples put their unique spins on traditional wedding events. And since we know the couple doesn’t love cake, they decided to have a Donut Bar and Sweets Table provided by Dynamic Desserts.

Congratulations Maddy and Adam! We hope your marriage is filled with as much fun and dancing as you and your guests at the wedding!

Michelle and Harrison’s Wedding at the Metropolitan Club in the Willis Tower in Chicago

For the first time it seems like Americans can finally see light at the end of this very long tunnel called COVID-19. Fortunately, a light is already shining bright on Paul Michaels Events as business is thriving once again. On Saturday, May 15, we had the pleasure of providing our services at the world-famous Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower) in downtown Chicago.

The ceremony and reception took place on the 67th floor (at the Metropolitan Club) which easily has one of the most spectacular views of the city (well, at least in our opinion). The whole celebration was an exciting experience with enhanced by incredible people, amazing food, heartfelt speeches, and of course phenomenal music.
DJ’s Brian and Shannon has absolutely no problem keeping the party alive and energized the whole night. We even had the help of some unexpected fireworks going on outside in perfect view. It was an esteemed pleasure working with Michelle and Harrison from the very beginning to the end. We wish them the best in their future endeavors as husband and wife and look forward to the next couple we can party with.

Brianna and Justin’s Wedding at Abbington Banquets in Glen Ellyn

Beautiful wedding monogram at abbington glen ellyn banquet hall

Mazel Tov Brianna and Justin! Although this couple wasn’t able to celebrate their wedding as originally planned in April 2020, after rescheduling a few times, they were able to celebrate with their family and friends with a beautiful Jewish Wedding Ceremony in 2021!

DJ Shannon and DJ Paul had the distinct honor and pleasure of being Brianna and Justin’s Downers Grove Wedding DJs at Abbington Banquet Hall.

At Paul Michaels Events we put the couple at the center of attention on their wedding day, NOT the DJs. We’re there to make sure you shine, and have an effortless and fun day, and we are there to make that magic happen, not to be the show.
In this case, as you can see in our photos (below), our DJ setup was positioned behind our lighting and speaker setup so that we could make sure the room looked incredible and we could literally spotlight our bride and groom from across the dance floor.

Whenever we work in venues with tall ceilings, or air walls (the ones that can separate larger rooms into many banquet hall rooms), we love to use our name in lights effect to personalize the space with the couple’s names. A few years back we upgraded our monogram projectors to digital projections so that we can ensure the projection looks fantastic and is crystal clear, while allowing us to project the image from nearly any angle.

Additionally, we surprised all the guests with our “dancing on the clouds” effect for Briana and Justin’s first dance as husband and wife. The effect looked beautiful and grabbed everyone’s attention for such a special moment. Luckily photographer Morgan from Indigo Lace Collective was able to capture this incredible effect!

Once we got the dancing started, DJ Shannon kept it rocking all night long!

Thanks Briana and Justin for trusting Paul Michaels Events with your big day!

Should You Hire a DJ or Band for Your Wedding?

Choosing the right music is essential to creating a memorable wedding. Meanwhile, the question of whether to hire a DJ or a band for your wedding reception may come up. There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer to this question. However, there are some things you can consider to direct you to the right decision.

Try to compare the differences between booking a band or hiring a DJ to determine what best fits your wedding. Below are things to consider to help you with your decision.

  • Budget

In many cases, DJs cost less than a wedding band. A band involves a larger group of people, equipment, and instruments, hence the high pay.

If you lean towards a band, that’s fine. However, if you are bothered about the cost, you may decide to go for a DJ’s services. Although some DJs cost as much as live bands, many DJs are less expensive because they are usually a one or two person show.

  • Music Varieties

A DJ is a better option if you want a variety of music styles and genres for your wedding. Wedding bands usually have an agreed-upon song list they can perform. Therefore, if you care about music variety, a DJ may be your likely choice. If you prefer live music with a specific style, a live band may be a better fit.

  • Wedding Venue

Your venue is another thing to consider when making your decision. Bands generally need a lot of space to allow for multiple band members, and large equipment. Ensure the venue is large enough to fit your band. Some venues have restrictions on the number of equipment and musicians to bring in, so check with your venue before you start hiring.

  • You Can Mix Things Up

Some couples hire both DJs and bands for their celebration. If you can afford it, you can have the DJ for the reception and a band or perhaps a Chicago quartet for the wedding ceremony.

Need A Wedding DJ? Paul Michaels Events is the DJ company for the job. We play the best of songs that match you as a couple’s taste and create the perfect mood. 6 Creative Ways to Personalize Your Wedding

Your wedding is your day, therefore you can make it unique by personalizing your celebration to fit your personality. From the location you choose, to the wedding theme and wedding games, there are multiple ways to customize your event and make it unique. These are some great ideas to make a statement with your wedding!

  •         Include Meaningful Details

Special details about your life and love story will make your event unique. Is there a song that means a lot to your relationship? Play it! The story of how you met? Share it!

You can get ideas from your passion and hobbies. For example, if you love books, you can have your cake designed as a stack of books; if you love to travel, design your paper goods to look like a passport.

  •         Display Photos

You can include a wall or table or even a slide in the venue where you share photos of you and your partner-or just general pictures. The pictures can be of your family members or even loved ones that have passed.

  •         Personalize Your Menu and Signature Drinks

You can have fun by customizing the cocktails too. Let the bartender prepare a custom drink that has a special meaning to you.

Additionally, your food can be designed around your relationship or your roots and where you’re from. For example, if there is a food you both love to eat or a food significant to your tradition, you could have it served at your wedding reception!

  •         Include Fun Signage

Including signage is an excellent way to add your stamp on the wedding. You can share custom signage about your relationship. There are many ways you can do this: display your favorite quote, customize and add your initials to the favors, write out a part of your vows, personalize the aisle, and more.

  •         Celebrate Your Roots

Celebrate your roots, traditions, and beliefs by showcasing them at your event. For example, if there’s a practice significant to your culture or religion, you can include it in your wedding.

  •         Include Music You Love

Celebrate your day by playing music that you love. It is essential because music, more than anything else, adds life to any celebration!

At Paul Michaels Events, we are dedicated to offering excellent DJ services to ensure our clients get a fun and entertaining event. We do not believe in one size fits all approach, so we customize our services to reflect our clients’ personalities, thus making their event unique!
