Michelle and Harrison’s Wedding at the Metropolitan Club in the Willis Tower in Chicago

For the first time it seems like Americans can finally see light at the end of this very long tunnel called COVID-19. Fortunately, a light is already shining bright on Paul Michaels Events as business is thriving once again. On Saturday, May 15, we had the pleasure of providing our services at the world-famous Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower) in downtown Chicago.

The ceremony and reception took place on the 67th floor (at the Metropolitan Club) which easily has one of the most spectacular views of the city (well, at least in our opinion). The whole celebration was an exciting experience with enhanced by incredible people, amazing food, heartfelt speeches, and of course phenomenal music.
DJ’s Brian and Shannon has absolutely no problem keeping the party alive and energized the whole night. We even had the help of some unexpected fireworks going on outside in perfect view. It was an esteemed pleasure working with Michelle and Harrison from the very beginning to the end. We wish them the best in their future endeavors as husband and wife and look forward to the next couple we can party with.

Brianna and Justin’s Wedding at Abbington Banquets in Glen Ellyn

Beautiful wedding monogram at abbington glen ellyn banquet hall

Mazel Tov Brianna and Justin! Although this couple wasn’t able to celebrate their wedding as originally planned in April 2020, after rescheduling a few times, they were able to celebrate with their family and friends with a beautiful Jewish Wedding Ceremony in 2021!

DJ Shannon and DJ Paul had the distinct honor and pleasure of being Brianna and Justin’s Downers Grove Wedding DJs at Abbington Banquet Hall.

At Paul Michaels Events we put the couple at the center of attention on their wedding day, NOT the DJs. We’re there to make sure you shine, and have an effortless and fun day, and we are there to make that magic happen, not to be the show.
In this case, as you can see in our photos (below), our DJ setup was positioned behind our lighting and speaker setup so that we could make sure the room looked incredible and we could literally spotlight our bride and groom from across the dance floor.

Whenever we work in venues with tall ceilings, or air walls (the ones that can separate larger rooms into many banquet hall rooms), we love to use our name in lights effect to personalize the space with the couple’s names. A few years back we upgraded our monogram projectors to digital projections so that we can ensure the projection looks fantastic and is crystal clear, while allowing us to project the image from nearly any angle.

Additionally, we surprised all the guests with our “dancing on the clouds” effect for Briana and Justin’s first dance as husband and wife. The effect looked beautiful and grabbed everyone’s attention for such a special moment. Luckily photographer Morgan from Indigo Lace Collective was able to capture this incredible effect!

Once we got the dancing started, DJ Shannon kept it rocking all night long!

Thanks Briana and Justin for trusting Paul Michaels Events with your big day!

Should You Hire a DJ or Band for Your Wedding?

Choosing the right music is essential to creating a memorable wedding. Meanwhile, the question of whether to hire a DJ or a band for your wedding reception may come up. There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer to this question. However, there are some things you can consider to direct you to the right decision.

Try to compare the differences between booking a band or hiring a DJ to determine what best fits your wedding. Below are things to consider to help you with your decision.

  • Budget

In many cases, DJs cost less than a wedding band. A band involves a larger group of people, equipment, and instruments, hence the high pay.

If you lean towards a band, that’s fine. However, if you are bothered about the cost, you may decide to go for a DJ’s services. Although some DJs cost as much as live bands, many DJs are less expensive because they are usually a one or two person show.

  • Music Varieties

A DJ is a better option if you want a variety of music styles and genres for your wedding. Wedding bands usually have an agreed-upon song list they can perform. Therefore, if you care about music variety, a DJ may be your likely choice. If you prefer live music with a specific style, a live band may be a better fit.

  • Wedding Venue

Your venue is another thing to consider when making your decision. Bands generally need a lot of space to allow for multiple band members, and large equipment. Ensure the venue is large enough to fit your band. Some venues have restrictions on the number of equipment and musicians to bring in, so check with your venue before you start hiring.

  • You Can Mix Things Up

Some couples hire both DJs and bands for their celebration. If you can afford it, you can have the DJ for the reception and a band or perhaps a Chicago quartet for the wedding ceremony.

Need A Wedding DJ? Paul Michaels Events is the DJ company for the job. We play the best of songs that match you as a couple’s taste and create the perfect mood. 6 Creative Ways to Personalize Your Wedding

Your wedding is your day, therefore you can make it unique by personalizing your celebration to fit your personality. From the location you choose, to the wedding theme and wedding games, there are multiple ways to customize your event and make it unique. These are some great ideas to make a statement with your wedding!

  •         Include Meaningful Details

Special details about your life and love story will make your event unique. Is there a song that means a lot to your relationship? Play it! The story of how you met? Share it!

You can get ideas from your passion and hobbies. For example, if you love books, you can have your cake designed as a stack of books; if you love to travel, design your paper goods to look like a passport.

  •         Display Photos

You can include a wall or table or even a slide in the venue where you share photos of you and your partner-or just general pictures. The pictures can be of your family members or even loved ones that have passed.

  •         Personalize Your Menu and Signature Drinks

You can have fun by customizing the cocktails too. Let the bartender prepare a custom drink that has a special meaning to you.

Additionally, your food can be designed around your relationship or your roots and where you’re from. For example, if there is a food you both love to eat or a food significant to your tradition, you could have it served at your wedding reception!

  •         Include Fun Signage

Including signage is an excellent way to add your stamp on the wedding. You can share custom signage about your relationship. There are many ways you can do this: display your favorite quote, customize and add your initials to the favors, write out a part of your vows, personalize the aisle, and more.

  •         Celebrate Your Roots

Celebrate your roots, traditions, and beliefs by showcasing them at your event. For example, if there’s a practice significant to your culture or religion, you can include it in your wedding.

  •         Include Music You Love

Celebrate your day by playing music that you love. It is essential because music, more than anything else, adds life to any celebration!

At Paul Michaels Events, we are dedicated to offering excellent DJ services to ensure our clients get a fun and entertaining event. We do not believe in one size fits all approach, so we customize our services to reflect our clients’ personalities, thus making their event unique!

2 Important Things a Great DJ Excels in Doing

There is more to DJing than just mixing songs or making playlists. It takes more than that to lead your guests through the entire evening smoothly and entertain audiences at weddings and parties. One good quality of a good DJ is not only do they have a wide database of music to choose from but they know which excellent songs to use when detecting the temperament and mood of guests at an event.

A professional DJ is adept at knowing the right place, moment, and mood to play particular songs. The best DJ is one who is creative enough to know his or her audience and the environment they are DJing. So, to be able to find great DJs from the amateurs, we have listed some tips below so you’ll be sure before you secure the services of a DJ for your wedding.

  • Reading the Room

A DJ who knows what they are doing, they can read the room and can play songs that induce particular emotions in the guests. A professional DJ will have years of experience with this, so it’s something he or she can easily do.

  • The Perfect Time to Play the Perfect Songs

A good DJ knows the right time to play certain types of music. The DJ has control and he must make sure he or she exceeds the audience’s expectations. The DJ must know how to read the time and moment to entertain each and everyone at the wedding venue. Exceptional DJs are those that know exactly what to play and when to play it.

If your Chicago wedding is right around the corner and you need a DJ who has perfected the points in this article, Paul Michaels Events would love to talk to you.

We promise to make your wedding a truly fun and memorable celebration. We have the talent, skills, equipment, passion, and drive, and we’ll bring them all to your wedding ceremony and reception!

Secrets to an Awesome Wedding Dance Floor

One of the best and entertaining parts of a wedding is music and in extension, the dance floor!  An empty or boring dancefloor is a nightmare we’re sure everyone would want to avoid. Below are some suggestions that will help your guests make their way to the dance floor and keep it rocking!

  • Create the Right Mood

It’s essential to set the right mood. The mood for your party is usually set during cocktail hour.  With proper lighting and music, this can enhance your guests’ vibe. When you’re ready to get the dancing part of the night started, work with your DJ to pick an upbeat song to get the wedding started!

  • Timing

Timing is important. You don’t want to stop the dancing because it’s time for speeches, and then expect your guests to all return to the dancefloor with the same vibe. Consider having essential wedding activities completed before dancing starts.

  • Make Sure There’s Enough Space

Small dance floors will discourage your guests and limit their dancing. Therefore, ensure you pick a venue with enough dance floor space. The ideal size is to have 3 square feet of space for every two guests, which means about 200 guests will need 18 x 18 area.

  • Provide Flip Flops for Female Guests

Sore or blistered feet from high heels can obviously kill the vibe for your guests. Consider providing flip flops or socks for female guests to keep them dancing.

  • Hire an Awesome DJ

An excellent wedding DJ will help make a fantastic dance floor. Great DJs can read the crowd and know the songs to play to get people on the dance floor.

They also have an exciting and diverse playlist that will get people excited to be on the dance floor. Want a packed dance floor? Invest in a great DJ!

  • Trust Your DJ

Don’t teach the DJ how to do their work. Let your DJ lead the music services. Song requests are great ideas, but you don’t want to try to turn your DJ into a jukebox playing from the list you provided exactly.

  • Set the Lead

Don’t underestimate how contagious your energy is. Taking the lead to hit the dance floor will encourage the guests to join you. Your guests are there to be with you. If you’re on the dance floor, that’s where your guests will be!

Need a DJ that will deliver fantastic music services and keep the dance floor packed? Go with Paul Michaels Events! With our services, you can’t go wrong with your wedding reception entertainment. We offer personalized services tailored to the couple and guests’ tastes, and we are never satisfied until our clients are!

Annie and Alex’s Destination Wedding in Grand Beach, MI

bride and groom dancing at wedding in grand beach michigan

In times like these, it’s inevitable that couples trying to have the wedding of their dreams will face countless challenges. Thankfully Annie and Alex discovered Paul Michaels Events, which had the pleasure of providing their services for their celebration of marriage in early October 2020.

Their wedding took place in the beautiful, modest village of Grand Beach, Michigan. It started off with a wonderful ceremony near the village clubhouse. The ceremony was filled with familiar faces and voices, with the bride’s brother serving as their pastor,  and the worship pastor from their home church was able to provide delightful musical selections.

The reception took place in the backyard of a lovely house down the road. It may have looked small but looks can be deceiving!

We sent two of our DJs – DJ Brian and DJ Shannon who added a new level of energy and charisma, keeping the guests delighted all night long.

No dance floor, no problem! For this COVID-era wedding, we kept the music bumping, while guests social distanced all night. Our lights electrified the fun lawn games, and with this amazing group of people, the party never stopped!

For Grand Beach being such a small town, we’re pretty sure that this event ranks near the top of the list for the most incredible parties in the area, and we’re over the top that Paul Michaels Events could help make that happen! It was an amazing experience to be a part of Annie and Alex’s special day, and Paul Michaels Events hopes to be a part of many more to come for this couple and their friends!

Kristina and Tim’s Wedding at the Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel

DJ Paul Michaels and assistant Michael were recently honored to celebrate with Kristina and Tim for their wedding at the Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel.

Kristina and Tim held their wedding ceremony earlier in the day at Second Presbyterian Church in Chicago. Later in the day when they arrived at the reception venue, the room was ready to go and looked beautiful for them to celebrate with their family and friends.  As you can see in the gallery below, the Renaissance in downtown Chicago event venue space makes for a great place to hold a celebration, with an incredible view of the skyline of downtown!

In addition to a cocktail hour setup for music in the pre-reception area, Paul Michaels Events provided full room uplighting with our elite wedding package which includes moving head lights on lighting totems. Hillary and Jeff’s Wedding at Bartlett Hills Golf Club Event Venue

For Paul, it’s always an honor to provide his top tier Chicago wedding DJ services for a friend from college! DJ Paul Michaels and assistant Michael were recently honored to work the wedding for Jeff and Hillary at Bartlett Hills Golf Club Event Venue. Paul met Jeff at Bradley University where they both went to school.

Jeff and Hillary held their wedding ceremony earlier in the day at St. Matthew United Church of Christ in Wheaton, IL. Later in the day when they arrived at the reception venue, the room was ready to go and looked beautiful for them to celebrate with their family and friends.  As you can see in the gallery below, the Bartlett Hills golf club event venue space makes for a great place to hold a celebration.

Paul Michaels Events provided full room uplighting with our elite wedding package which includes moving head lights on 2 meter tall lighting totems. With this setup, the guests were sure to be dazzled, and the additional ambiance and feel, along with the wedding guests and party, made this an ordinary wedding reception extraordinary!

Once DJ Paul and Assistant Michael got the night going, they didn’t stop until the very last song (where of course, the guests chanted for “one more song!”).

We had a blast celebrating with Jeff and Hillary and their family and friends, and we sincerely wish them a great European honeymoon!

Amber and Corey’s Wedding at Columbus Park Refectory in Chicago

In late September, Amber and Corey held their wedding at the Columbus Park Refectory in Chicago. Columbus Park Refectory is a beautiful landmark showcasing Spanish-influenced architecture, arched entryways, and more, which makes it a very popular destination for weddings.

Since both the ceremony, and cocktail hour were planned to be held outdoors, the couple was scared and worried (as can be expected) considering the incredible thunderstorms that rolled through Chicago the night prior.  But, as fate would have it, the weather held out, and just as the ceremony music started, the sun peaked out from behind the clouds for just a few minutes, which made for a moment that won’t be forgotten by any of their guests (or vendors for that matter!)

DJ Terry and Assistant Adam were on the scene to create a music atmosphere every step of the way.  Amber and Corey and their guests got to follow the sounds of Paul Michaels Events every step of the way, since we provided audio coverage for every area (ceremony in the pavillion, the outdoor cocktail hour, the dinner/reception area, and of course the room for dancing!)  Of course, it wasn’t until dancing when we got to see this couple’s true colors.  They really let loose on the dance floor.

Finally, the new Mr. and Mrs. were sent off through a tunnel of sparkers for an incredible sparkler exit created by all their loved ones.  It was a great time with all ups and no downs.
