Stefani and Frank’s Backyard Wedding in Palatine

Most of the events we do at Paul Michaels Events take place indoors, so its always nice when we get a breath of fresh air from the great outdoors.

Thankfully DJ Brian had that pleasure providing our wedding DJ services for the wedding reception of Stefani and Frank. It took place at their beautiful home out in Palatine, IL. From the moment you stepped foot into their backyard, you were immediately welcomed to an array of amazing homemade food, tasty drinks, and super fun games. It was the best of both worlds, giving you the feeling of a big celebration along with the intimacy of a family gathering. The amount of energy that radiated from the dance floor throughout the night was that of a wedding with 10 times the guest count.  Stefani and Frank’s friends and family showed up to celebrate!

The night was filled with laughs to make you fall out of your chair and passion that would make tears fall from your eyes. As one could imagine, all the special emotions felt throughout the night culminated on the dance floor. It was a great sight to see everyone jam out to the tunes featuring some throwbacks from Ska, the Beatles and Paul Simon.

We thank Stefani and Frank for giving us the opportunity to assist them in creating some life long memories.

Diana and Robert’s Wedding at the Adler Planetarium

We are so glad that we could be a part of Diana and Robert’s Chicago Wedding at the Adler Planetarium. The couple originally wanted to do a Destination Wedding, but due to the challenges of the Covid weddings during the pandemic, they decided to have their wedding here in Chicago.

The evening started with an outdoor ceremony facing the beautiful Chicago Skyline, which we provided Ceremony Audio services. During the ceremony, the couples released balloons holding a lock and key, which made for a very romantic and exciting moment on such a windy day!

After the ceremony, the guests moved to the balcony for Cocktail hour, for which we provided background music. During the Cocktail hour, guests could again enjoy the beautiful views of downtown Chicago.

Following the Cocktail hour, the guests moved inside and we started the reception with Bridal Party introductions! Once everyone was inside, they enjoyed a fantastic dinner buffet provided by Food For Thought, the exclusive caterer at the Adler Planetarium. The guests enjoyed background dinner music while enjoying dinner at their tables. When dinner concluded, we started dancing with the couple’s first dance. After that, we played a wide range of music, ranging from swing, to salsa, to rap, but especially throwback hip-hop (the couple’s favorite). The night ended with the couple and their friends enjoying 80s and 90s hip hop.

Thank you Diana and Robert for trusting Paul Michaels Events with your special day. Congratulations again!

Raquel and Marcos’s Wedding at Mickey Finn’s Brewery in Libertyville

Paul Michaels Events ended July with a bang, working 3 events on the last day!

One of those events took place at Mickey Finn’s Brewery in the beautiful village of Libertyville. We had the pleasure of providing our services for the lovely couple of Raquel and Marcos. The banquet space known as the “Amber Room” hosted a diverse night of decorations, food, and especially entertainment. This theme is reflected in the music featuring classic rock, country, freestyle, and many different genres from Mexico.

Most people would have seen this as a challenge, but DJ Brian saw it as a chance to create something special for our clients. Thankfully this was a crowd that loved to dance and sing, making the job much easier! You could tell they were all about having a fun and every song meant something special to them.

There was never a dull moment from the moment the ceremony started until the last song was played. That definitely helped the caricature artist get some great expressions for drawings.

We hope we have the pleasure to continue working for couples as amazing as Raquel and Marcos, making us eager to continue looking forward to the next event.

Meg and John’s Wedding at Cantigny Golf in Wheaton

In late July DJ Paul Michaels and Assistant Kyle had the distinct pleasure to provide Wheaton Wedding DJ services for Meg and John.

Meg and John live in Florida (which is also where they met) but have family in the suburbs of Chicago, so they held their wedding at Cantigny Golf Course, in their new wedding venue (built during covid).

The day of the wedding, it was such a hot day that we moved the wedding ceremony indoors (it was originally planned to be outside), and then after the ceremony concluded, all the guests went outdoors for cocktail hour while the venue did a ‘room flip’ to turn the ceremony space into a beautiful reception space.

After dinner was over, the dance floor stayed busy with all of the couple’s family and friends!

Katie and Andrew’s Destination Wedding at the Laurel in Dallas

Another destination wedding in the books!

We had been working with Katie and Andrew for quite a while on making their wedding a perfect reality here in Chicago, but due to COVID and other reasons, the wedding could not go on in Chicago.

Katie and Andrew called up DJ Paul Michaels with the sad news about their Chicago wedding, and although they were bummed they wouldn’t be having their wedding in Chicago, they wanted to see if Paul Michaels Events could still work with them on their wedding at their new venue in DALLAS! For their new venue, they chose Boxwood Hospitality Group‘s The Laurel which is a beautiful special events venue in Grapevine (just outside of Dallas), Texas.

For this wedding, DJ Paul Michaels flew in town the day prior (Friday) in order to make sure there was no room for error, and we hired a local DJ/Production company to handle all the DJ gear and lighting to our high standards.

The couple tied the knot at the Laurel’s in-house chapel in front of their family and friends, and then moved outside for a beautiful cocktail hour in the Dallas sun.

For the reception, DJ Paul Michaels kicked it into high gear. Once this group started dancing, we had a PACKED dance floor all night!

Katie and Andrew as well as all their family and friends had the time of their lives, and photographer Ben Ramos  (also Chicago based) was there to capture all of it!

Adriana and Michael’s Wedding at the Inn on Broadway in Rochester NY

Paul was recently back on the road for another destination wedding in Rochester, NY. Adriana and Michael tied the knot at St Josaphat’s Ukrainian Catholic Church for a traditional Ukrainian wedding ceremony.

Later in the day, the couple and their guests made their way to the Inn on Broadway where DJ Paul Michaels and assistant Jamie were to celebrate with them in the beautiful reception hall gorgeously decorated by Erin McDonald and his team.

Of course, Paul Michaels Events is based out of Chicago, but we do provide Destination Wedding DJ Services all over based on special request. In this case, we were able to partner with Full House Entertainment in Rochester to source most equipment locally.

Adriana and Michael couldn’t have been luckier with timing and New York State’s COVID restrictions. Just the week before their wedding, the state opened up restrictions to allow fully vaccinated guests to roam the reception hall without masks.

Photographer Natalie and videographer Darren were there to capture every incredible moment throughout the evening. We were able to work with the couple to make sure we blended special traditions and moments from their heritages and religions into the reception to make it a perfect blending of families and welcoming of the couple into the community (as part of a Ukrainian tradition).

From the time the dance floor opened until the very last song, DJ Paul and Assistant Jamie kept the dance floor packed!

Adriana and Michael – it was a pleasure and an honor to be able to come to New York for your destination wedding in Rochester to celebrate with you and your families!

Michelle and Harrison’s Wedding at the Metropolitan Club in the Willis Tower in Chicago

For the first time it seems like Americans can finally see light at the end of this very long tunnel called COVID-19. Fortunately, a light is already shining bright on Paul Michaels Events as business is thriving once again. On Saturday, May 15, we had the pleasure of providing our services at the world-famous Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower) in downtown Chicago.

The ceremony and reception took place on the 67th floor (at the Metropolitan Club) which easily has one of the most spectacular views of the city (well, at least in our opinion). The whole celebration was an exciting experience with enhanced by incredible people, amazing food, heartfelt speeches, and of course phenomenal music.
DJ’s Brian and Shannon has absolutely no problem keeping the party alive and energized the whole night. We even had the help of some unexpected fireworks going on outside in perfect view. It was an esteemed pleasure working with Michelle and Harrison from the very beginning to the end. We wish them the best in their future endeavors as husband and wife and look forward to the next couple we can party with.

Brianna and Justin’s Wedding at Abbington Banquets in Glen Ellyn

Beautiful wedding monogram at abbington glen ellyn banquet hall

Mazel Tov Brianna and Justin! Although this couple wasn’t able to celebrate their wedding as originally planned in April 2020, after rescheduling a few times, they were able to celebrate with their family and friends with a beautiful Jewish Wedding Ceremony in 2021!

DJ Shannon and DJ Paul had the distinct honor and pleasure of being Brianna and Justin’s Downers Grove Wedding DJs at Abbington Banquet Hall.

At Paul Michaels Events we put the couple at the center of attention on their wedding day, NOT the DJs. We’re there to make sure you shine, and have an effortless and fun day, and we are there to make that magic happen, not to be the show.
In this case, as you can see in our photos (below), our DJ setup was positioned behind our lighting and speaker setup so that we could make sure the room looked incredible and we could literally spotlight our bride and groom from across the dance floor.

Whenever we work in venues with tall ceilings, or air walls (the ones that can separate larger rooms into many banquet hall rooms), we love to use our name in lights effect to personalize the space with the couple’s names. A few years back we upgraded our monogram projectors to digital projections so that we can ensure the projection looks fantastic and is crystal clear, while allowing us to project the image from nearly any angle.

Additionally, we surprised all the guests with our “dancing on the clouds” effect for Briana and Justin’s first dance as husband and wife. The effect looked beautiful and grabbed everyone’s attention for such a special moment. Luckily photographer Morgan from Indigo Lace Collective was able to capture this incredible effect!

Once we got the dancing started, DJ Shannon kept it rocking all night long!

Thanks Briana and Justin for trusting Paul Michaels Events with your big day!

Should You Hire a DJ or Band for Your Wedding?

Choosing the right music is essential to creating a memorable wedding. Meanwhile, the question of whether to hire a DJ or a band for your wedding reception may come up. There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer to this question. However, there are some things you can consider to direct you to the right decision.

Try to compare the differences between booking a band or hiring a DJ to determine what best fits your wedding. Below are things to consider to help you with your decision.

  • Budget

In many cases, DJs cost less than a wedding band. A band involves a larger group of people, equipment, and instruments, hence the high pay.

If you lean towards a band, that’s fine. However, if you are bothered about the cost, you may decide to go for a DJ’s services. Although some DJs cost as much as live bands, many DJs are less expensive because they are usually a one or two person show.

  • Music Varieties

A DJ is a better option if you want a variety of music styles and genres for your wedding. Wedding bands usually have an agreed-upon song list they can perform. Therefore, if you care about music variety, a DJ may be your likely choice. If you prefer live music with a specific style, a live band may be a better fit.

  • Wedding Venue

Your venue is another thing to consider when making your decision. Bands generally need a lot of space to allow for multiple band members, and large equipment. Ensure the venue is large enough to fit your band. Some venues have restrictions on the number of equipment and musicians to bring in, so check with your venue before you start hiring.

  • You Can Mix Things Up

Some couples hire both DJs and bands for their celebration. If you can afford it, you can have the DJ for the reception and a band or perhaps a Chicago quartet for the wedding ceremony.

Need A Wedding DJ? Paul Michaels Events is the DJ company for the job. We play the best of songs that match you as a couple’s taste and create the perfect mood. 6 Creative Ways to Personalize Your Wedding

Your wedding is your day, therefore you can make it unique by personalizing your celebration to fit your personality. From the location you choose, to the wedding theme and wedding games, there are multiple ways to customize your event and make it unique. These are some great ideas to make a statement with your wedding!

  •         Include Meaningful Details

Special details about your life and love story will make your event unique. Is there a song that means a lot to your relationship? Play it! The story of how you met? Share it!

You can get ideas from your passion and hobbies. For example, if you love books, you can have your cake designed as a stack of books; if you love to travel, design your paper goods to look like a passport.

  •         Display Photos

You can include a wall or table or even a slide in the venue where you share photos of you and your partner-or just general pictures. The pictures can be of your family members or even loved ones that have passed.

  •         Personalize Your Menu and Signature Drinks

You can have fun by customizing the cocktails too. Let the bartender prepare a custom drink that has a special meaning to you.

Additionally, your food can be designed around your relationship or your roots and where you’re from. For example, if there is a food you both love to eat or a food significant to your tradition, you could have it served at your wedding reception!

  •         Include Fun Signage

Including signage is an excellent way to add your stamp on the wedding. You can share custom signage about your relationship. There are many ways you can do this: display your favorite quote, customize and add your initials to the favors, write out a part of your vows, personalize the aisle, and more.

  •         Celebrate Your Roots

Celebrate your roots, traditions, and beliefs by showcasing them at your event. For example, if there’s a practice significant to your culture or religion, you can include it in your wedding.

  •         Include Music You Love

Celebrate your day by playing music that you love. It is essential because music, more than anything else, adds life to any celebration!

At Paul Michaels Events, we are dedicated to offering excellent DJ services to ensure our clients get a fun and entertaining event. We do not believe in one size fits all approach, so we customize our services to reflect our clients’ personalities, thus making their event unique!
