DJ Ian and Assistant Hootan recently helped Jill and Brett celebrate their wedding at the Montgomery Club in Chicago’s River North area (where Paul Michaels Events is based).
Paul Michaels Events provided full room uplighting, a photobooth, and of course an audio system appropriate for all of the couple’s guests! One of the services we pride ourselves on at Paul Michaels Events is making sure that all details are taken care of ahead of time and having the foresight to plan for any possible issues that may arise.
For Jill and Brett’s wedding, the ceremony and reception were held in the same room, with a “room flip” while guests enjoyed cocktail hour in the venue’s “Chicago Room” before re-entering for the reception. These “room flips” require a lot of coordination from all vendors in order to smoothly change the room and be prepared for the reception in under an hour.
For this wedding, we hadn’t previously played any events at the venue, so we met with the venue staff far before the event to get a feel for the room to make sure we were providing appropriate amounts of equipment for what the couple wanted. In terms of sound coverage, many DJ companies have the “cookie cutter” approach where they use the same exact setup at every event. We know that this doesn’t work, and that audio and lighting coverage needs to be specific to the venue, and number of guests. For example, a room with tall (20-40 foot) ceilings is going to sound much different than a venue with 8 foot tall ceilings.
